Canadian Council of Imams Appeals for Immediate help for Haiti Earthquake Victims FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 13, 2010 Toronto – In response to the catastrophic disaster and immense damages caused by the horrific earthquake in Haiti, the Canadian Council of Imams appeals to all the Canadian Muslim individuals and organizations to make their contributions with all possible means available to them to join the national response, the international community and the different faith communities in response to this tragedy.
"It is our human, natural and Islamic duty to contribute with whatever means we can to make some difference" Dr. Hamid Slimi said in an interview. He added, " this is one chance where all faith groups could show the best of their teachings and how the latter become practical in reality. We cannot just stand and watch without doing our share. We must do something whether individually or collectively as we did in the aftermath of the Tsunami a few years ago." The Canadian Council of Imams appeals to all the mosques and Islamic Centres in Canada to organize collections after Friday prayers for Haiti victims and to try to work together. Human Concern International, ICNA Relief and a few other Muslim Humanitarian organizations have already started planning collectively on how to work with the Muslim Communities of Canada to show the spirit of unity and care. |
